About the project

Our client, Sterling Arts, is a fine art framing company who 1558 relocated to this new space from San Francisco where they had been in business since 1981. This West Oakland building renovation was an interior remodel of a 1940’s era brick warehouse. The building was previously used as a mattress warehouse, live work art space and most recently as a kickboxing gym.

Care was taken to preserve some signs of the previous uses of the building and finishes that were added during a large remodel in the 90’s were kept and incorporated into the final design. The scope of work included a remodeled ADA bathroom, removing and relocating interior walls to fit Sterling’s intended use, new lighting and fire sprinklers, polished concrete floors and paint throughout. Sterling Arts is now using the space as their primary design, fitting and art storage space.
