About the project
BBI Construction was the general contractor for the renovation and seismic strengthening of StopWaste.Org’s new office building in downtown Oakland. Initially the 14,000 sq. ft. project was intended for LEED Silver, but as the project moved forward, it became clear that the project had already surpassed the requirements for LEED Silver and was in the LEED Gold range. In the end, StopWaste.Org decided to go the extra mile to obtain LEED Platinum status.
The project was the first LEED 2.2 Platinum renovation project in the Nation, and one of only a handful of Platinum buildings in California. Included among the building’s many sustainable features are a photovoltaic panel array; efficient heating, cooling, lighting, and energy management systems; recycled and salvaged materials; and low VOC paints.
