F.M. Smith Recreation Center
Oakland, CA
Client: City of Oakland/Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation
Architect: Norman Hooks, Architect and Moore Iacofano Goltsman
F.M. Smith is one of 35 playgrounds renovated under Oakland’s Measure I. On this design-build project, BBI Construction worked closely with Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation (the owner’s representative), the architect, the designer, and the community to design a variety of different play environments throughout the City. Renovation of F.M. Smith incorporates a new play structure and 20 ft. play log carved by local Native American artist Harkin Lucero. Six of Harkin’s smaller poles were used in conjunction with an earth maze at Durant Park, another Measure I tot lot renovation site. |
