Renovation, ADA and seismic upgrade, and construction of a new 11,800 addition to a two-story concrete historic landmark building for use as an education and community environmental center. Special attention was given to maintain historic significance of building.
Other buildings included the “Warming Hut” which was built in 1908 as a warehouse. Post beetle and water damage had destroyed most of the structure and envelope of the building. BBI Construction removed, refurbished and reassembled all existing features contributing to the historic interpretation of the building. “Green” or sustainable finishes were used throughout including recycled barn wood for interior finishes on the Warming Hut.
Work was done under low noise and dust control, and during restricted hours due to its location in the historic Presidio.
The project received a National Park Service Environmental Award for the Warming Hut in 2003. |
